Which Claude model writes the best code? In this episode of the LLM Coding Challenge, we give Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku the exact same prompt — write a Python
palindrome checker — and compare the results side by side.
Same prompt. One shot. No follow-ups.
We score each model across 8 criteria:
- Function correctness
- Case insensitivity
- Handles spaces
- Strips punctuation
- Edge cases
- Test cases included
- Clean code
- Documentation
The result? All three models scored 8/8 — a perfect tie. But the real difference is in style: Opus keeps it concise, Sonnet adds formatted summaries, and Haiku
goes verbose with complexity analysis.
All code was generated using Claude Code CLI with the -p (one-shot) flag.
Next episode: a harder challenge. Subscribe to see if the models can still keep up.
